Kim Kardashian is suing Old Navy for using her likeness in a series of advertisements.
The reality star filed a lawsuit against the clothing retailer Tuesday claiming that the company knowingly and unlawfully used her persona in the “Super Cute” multimedia ads featuring Melissa Molinaro — who most definitely resembles the reality star. And that’s not cool with Kim.
“I’ve worked hard to support the products I’m personally involved with and that I believe in,” Kardashian said in the release. Her attorney, Gary Hecker, claims “celebrities have the exclusive right to control the use of their likeness and identity, and to chose the products endorse.”
There is no dollar amount mentioned in the release, but TMZ is reporting that Kardashian may sue for somewhere between $15 million and $20 million.
Gap Inc. has yet to see the lawsuit and therefore couldn’t comment on it, a rep told the Post in an e-mail. But it seems that the person who tweets for Old Navy was aware of the similarity. “@CBSNEWS reports that Old Navy's Super CUTE star looks like @kimkardashian. #LOL. What do you think?” read a tweet from February. I bet no one is LOLing now.
