The Social Security Administration released the list today of popular names given to children born in the United States last year, as the Associated Press reported, and there’s some rough news: Reality TV is naming this nation’s babies.
Okay, it’s not that bleak. But the AP attributes Mason’s rise from No. 12 to No. 2 on the boy’s list, in part, to reality star Kourtney Kardashian’s son of that name.
Mason Kardashian was born in December 2009, a year when the name was ranked 34th on the popularity list. Now, it’s overtaken William, Jayden, Noah and even Michael.
The biggest gain on the girl’s list was also attributed to the boob tube. Briella rose a staggering 394 spots, thanks perhaps to the show “Jerseylicious” and its cast member Briella Calafiore.
I’m happy to report that Snooki still does not register in the top 1,000 popular names. However, we should prepare ourselves to see whatever Nicole Polizzi names her little bambino on next year’s list.
