Lady Gaga talks Amy Winehouse on ‘The View’ (Video)

Lady Gaga guest hosted “The View” on Monday, discussing the day’s hot topics (hot dog billboards, for example), as well as the passing of Amy Winehouse.

Dressed in head-to-toe houndstooth, Gaga told the ladies she was “devastated” by Winehouse’s death.

“I really couldn’t speak for 48 hours straight I was in such shock,” the “Born This Way” singer said.

(Read about Gaga’s whole appearance at the TV Column.)

Winehouse, 27, was buried last week just days after being found dead in her London home July 23. The cause of the singer’s death is unknown.

“I just think that the most unfortunate thing about it all is the way the media spins things — like we can learn from Amy’s death,” Gaga said. “I don’t feel that Amy needed to learn any lessons. I felt that the lesson was for the world to be kinder to the superstar. Everybody was so hard on her.”

Mama Monster also performed on the show, playing “You and I” in a piano covered in fabric to match her outfit. She paused during the performance to remove her cloth-covered sunglasses. Probably because they blinded her.

But as she closed the show with “The Edge of Glory,” the audience was reminded of Gaga’s true talent hidden under all that houndstooth: her beautiful voice.
