Letting audiences know how long they have until the band takes the stage is a really great idea.

‘Life of Pi’ trailer: Ang Lee and tigers and zebras

(Via YouTube)

Here’s another potentially Oscar-worthy film to add to your increasingly busy fall movie schedule: Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi,” the big-screen adaptation of Yann Martel’s best-selling, lyrical tale about an Indian boy stranded on the Pacific Ocean with a bunch of zoo animals.

The first trailer for the film has arrived online, and it does indeed deliver sweeping shots of the Pacific, zebras desperately doggy-paddling and a very angry tiger roaring atop a life boat.

20th Century Fox has cheesed up the marketing angle a little — “When all you’ve ever known is lost, find your courage,” the trailer declares, in classic, cliché movie preview fashion. But the imagery, in keeping with Lee’s flair for the visual, is absolutely stunning. Last holiday season gave us “We Bought a Zoo.” This one — “Pi” comes out in November — will give us “I Lived on a Boat ... With a Zoo.”
