Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes to be included in TLC’s upcoming tour, but not as a hologram

This week marked the 10th anniversary of TLC rapper Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’s sudden death at age 30.

Now the two remaining members of the group, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas, have confirmed to Essence and E! News plans to tour and include the late rapper in their shows by showing footage of her old performances.

TMZ claimed TLC had booked five shows and were planning to “pull a Tupac” by including Left Eye. But this is not a Tupac-Coachella- “hologram” situation.

(I’ve put hologram in quotes because, despite being labeled that way, Tupac’s beyond the grave performance was actually a two-dimensional projection.)

T-Boz said on Twitter that the group did not give a statement to TMZ and does not have five shows already booked. She did confirm in a tweet that TLC will tour and will include Left Eye.

A rep further clarified the situation to E! News. “The image is not a hologram,” the rep said. “The girls have done shows before with footage of old performances showing Lisa performing with them on a screen as they perform.”

In addition to a tour, T-Boz and Chilli told Essence they are planning to do a new album. The women are also working with VH1 as consultants on a biopic about their group.
