Martin Short will join CBS’s “How I Met Your Mother” for multiple episodes next season, according to New York Magazine’s Vulture blog.

The show’s producers were reportedly hoping to get Dave Foley, who appeared on the show’s season finale, to stay on. But when Foley’s new sitcom, “How to Be a Gentleman,” was picked up by CBS, producers opted for Short instead, Vulture reported. He will play the new boss of character Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel), the blog said.

The actor last appeared on TV on FX’s “Damages” and his own Comedy Central show, ‘Primetime Glick.” He also made a memorable guest appearance as Uncle Jack on “Arrested Development.”
