Matt Damon: My father has cancer

Matt Damon. (Chris Pizzello - AP) Matt Damon’s father is battling an incurable form of cancer.

Kent Damon is being treated for multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells in bone marrow, at Massachusetts General Hospital, the actor confirmed to Boston news channel, WCVB.

On Wednesday, the “Bourne” star was in Boston to speak at the hospital’s One Hundred Celebration at the Westin Hotel, People reports. “My family is so grateful for the care you’ve given us,” he told the health care professionals assembled. “It’s deeply humbling to see how many people here are committing their lives to helping others.”

Kent Damon’s cancer is in remission, according to People. Damon told WCVB his father is doing well and will “fight it to a standstill.”
