Watch this first teaser trailer of Meryl Streep playing Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady.” You may smell something while you view the clip — it’s called the scent of a potential Academy Award nomination for best actress.
This international trailer touts a January 2012 release date for the film, but “The Iron Lady” is currently slated for release here in the U.S. in December, making it perfectly eligible for Oscar consideration. If Streep does get nominated — which is a big assumption at this point, but not that big when you consider the fact that we’re talking about Meryl Streep — it would count as her 17th Academy Award nod.
