Michael J. Fox plays guitar at benefit, reaffirms his Marty McFly awesomeness [Video]

Michael J. Fox proved on Saturday night that he knows how to shred a guitar to an oldie but a goodie — or at least an oldie where he comes from.

During Saturday’s annual A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson’s benefit in New York, a fundraiser for the Michael J. Fox Foundation, the actor got onstage and played lead guitar to “Johnny B. Goode,” the same song that wowed the ’50s-era high-schoolers at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance in “Back to the Future.”

(As the Huffington Post notes in its report on the event, Fox famously pantomimed the fretwork for the movie but has since learned how to play it for real.)

In addition to his homage to the 1985 flux capacitor flick, Fox also was joined onstage Saturday night by Joan Jett, his co-star from another of his slightly less beloved ’80s movies, “Light of Day.” (In case you forgot, the head Blackheart played his sister in the drama, as well as his bandmate in the highly underrated fake rock band, the Barbusters.)

Saturday’s event was not the first time Fox has showed off his licks during a fundraiser. During the 2008 Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson’s gala, the Emmy winner performed with The Who, as People noted. And last year, Jett also joined Fox at the L.A. benefit. Still, it’s always good to see Fox show off his Marty McFly skills. More photos and video from his performance after the jump.

And here’s the video of “Johnny B. Goode.” “I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet.” Oh, actually, we’re ready:
