Michael Jackson’s image to be used in Pepsi campaign

The company announced Thursday that the late singer’s image will be used on Pepsi cans (seen at right) and in TV ads in select markets, according to the AP.

Remixes of songs from the King of Pop (I repeat, Pop) will also be available for download. According to Billboard, electronic artists Skrillex and Diplo are connected to the project.

This is not the first time Jackson has promoted Pepsi. While filming a commercial for the soda in 1984, his hair famously caught fire. Some believe this incident was linked to Jackson’s addition to painkillers, though a close friend of the singer disagreed.

According to AdAge, Pepsi sponsored Jackson’s 1988 “Bad” tour.

Jackson died in summer 2009 from an overdose of the sedative propofol and subsequent cardiac arrest. His doctor Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and is currently serving a four year sentence at the L.A. County Jail.

Nicki Minaj is also promoting Pepsi in a new “Live for Now” campaign, Billboard reports. Her first ad will debut May 7.
