Mindy McCready did not return her five-year-old son to Florida yesterday, as a judge had ordered.
The country singer’s son — who lives in the custody of his maternal grandmother — may be picked up by law enforcement officials anywhere now and return him to Florida, the Associated Press reports. McCready told the AP she would be unable to travel from Tennessee because she is pregnant with twins.
It’s unclear if she will face criminal charges.
McCready’s ex-boyfriend and her child’s father, Billy McKnight, told the “Today” show that he doesn’t think she understands the gravity of her actions.
“I think she believes she has a case and doesn't realize she's pushing her luck on this one,” he said.
McKnight said his son sounded “healthy and okay” when they spoke by phone Thursday.
