The troubled country singer and her son Zander, whom she does not have custody of, were reported missing Tuesday after the Department of Children and Families discovered they were not at her father’s home. Her mother has custody of the child. McCready has been ordered to return her son to the state by Thursday or risk arrest.
McCready told the AP that she took the boy to Nashville before Thanksgiving and believed the custody case was being transferred to the state. Her spokeswoman said in a statement “that Zander is in danger, both physically and emotionally,” at her mother’s home.
“No matter what happens, I’m going to protect my kid. If I have to go to jail, so be it,” she told the AP.
Her mother, Gayle Inge, told the AP the allegations are not true.
Both women said a judge has recently heard testimony on McCready regaining custody but has not ruled.
Although McCready told the AP she’s seven months into her pregnancy, the singer, whose boyfriend is music producer David Wilson, told the New York Daily News that she is five months pregnant.
