Molly Ringwald joins Twitter, converses with Andrew McCarthy

Ringwald, expert tweeter. (Post file photo)

This actually happened a few days ago but missed my attention until the good people at Zap2It pointed it out today.

The John Hughes muse who starred in “Sixteen Candles” and “The Breakfast Club” and now plays Shailene Woodley’s mother on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” has been tweeting about all kinds of things: The quality of the feta spinach wraps at Starbucks, her kids, her cat, the fact that she’s doing an AMA on Reddit tomorrow. (It’s from 8 to 9 p.m. ET, in case you’re interested.)

She’s also chatting a bit with fans and bloggers. It’s all pretty delightful.

Yet one tweet rises above the others as the best Molly Ringwald Twitter Event Ever. Or at least so far. And here it is.

@AndrewTMcCarthy thx old friend.Looking forward to your book!

That’s right: It’s a tweet greeting from “Pretty in Pink’s” Blane to Andie. So in a way, it’s basically the social media version of this scene right here.

The fact that this occurred during what is, for many high schoolers, prom season makes it that much more delicious. Jon Cryer hasn’t retweeted this exchange yet. But we trust that Duckie will have something to say about it very soon.

When she isn’t at a movie theater or writing about movies, Jen Chaney is ... um ... probably at home, watching a movie.
