Oprah Winfrey, who recently gave up her crown as queen of daytime TV, may host the Oscars.
Individuals inside the Academy tell the Chicago Sun-Times that the media maven, who is now heading her OWN network, tops the list of possible hosts for the 84th Academy Awards. “Academy honchos firmly believe Winfrey could greatly expand the show’s audience,” Bill Zwecker reported.
Should she get the job, Winfrey would be the third female to host the show solo. The other two being four time host, Whoopi Goldberg, and Ellen DeGeneres.
The only negative I can foresee? Oprah slipping back into her old mind-set and announcing, “You get an Oscar! And you get an Oscar!” to the whole audience.
Update: The Academy is not commenting on the Oprah rumor. “Every year there’s always great interest and excitement about who will host the Oscars,” the Academy said in a statment. “This is a wonderful example of just that, and at this point, there is nothing for us to comment on regarding who is or is not on the rumored Oscar host list.”
