Pee-wee Herman visits ‘Top Chef’ (Video)

Paul Reubens, aka Pee-wee Herman, and Padma Lakshmi. (Bravo)
Pee-wee Herman returned to the Alamo after more than 25 years Wednesday night to guest judge an episode of “Top Chef.”

In the classic film “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure,” the forever young Herman journeys to the San Antonio landmark to find his stolen bike, which a psychic has told him is in the building’s basement. But when he arrives, a gum-smacking tour guide informs him, “There’s no basement at the Alamo.” (There is one in the nearby gift shop.)

As food writer Carol Blymire described in her “Top Chef” recap, Herman, played eternally by Paul Reubens, returned to Texas on his signature red Schwinn bicycle, so the chefs could make him pancakes. AHHHHHHH! (The fluffy breakfast food is Pee-wee’s word of the day on Twitter.) They also made him chicken dishes.

Blogging for Entertainment Weekly, judge Gail Simmons said Herman “was really one of my favorite guest judges ever. He just brought so much joy and nostalgia and fun to the set.”

Feel the “joy and nostalgia and fun” by watching some clips from Herman’s episode below.
