‘Rise of the Guardians’ trailer: Santa Claus is coming to town — to fight evil

A still from “Rise of the Guardians.” (DreamWorks)
DreamWorks has released the first trailer for “Rise of the Guardians,” a 3-D animated film that imagines Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and the Sandman as protectors of children against evil.

The trailer introduces us to the Santa character, named North, who is Russian, tattooed and voiced by Alec Baldwin. North teams up with Bunnymund (Hugh Jackman), Tooth (Isla Fisher) and Sandman (who does not speak) to fight the nightmare king, Pitch (Jude Law.)

Chris Pine’s Jack Frost character, who is a loner member of the guardians, does not appear in this trailer, which is a visual stunner.

The film is based on William Joyce’s “The Guardians of Childhood” book series. Joyce, who created conceptual character’s for Pixar’s “A Bug’s Life” and “Toy Story,” co-wrote and co-directed “Rise of the Guardians,” according to his biography.
