Sacha Baron Cohen isn’t banned from the Oscars; ‘Seinfeld’ actor hospitalized after suicide attempt

It was reported this week that Sacha Baron Cohen wants to attend the Oscars dressed as his character from “The Dictator.” What a delightful publicity stunt idea! Deadline then reported that Baron Cohen’s tickets had been pulled, effectively banning him from the show. But an Academy rep. then told the Hollywood Reporter that the actor wasn’t banned. They just don’t want him to come in character and hijack the red carpet. It’s not clear whether the “Hugo” actor will attend. But in any case, we’ve talked about “The Dictator” a lot, so mission accomplished. (Deadline; THR)

Daniel von Bargen, the character actor best known for playing Mr. Kruger on “Seinfeld,” was hospitalized Monday after what appears to be a suicide attempt. Jason Alexander sent kind words via Twitter: “My best wishes to Daniel Von Bargen. I hope he is surrounded by people who love him tonight.” (TMZ; @IJasonAlexander)

Aretha Franklin has kindly asked “Extra TV,” the New York Post and Newsday (by name) to “stop the B.S.” about her relationship with Cissy Houston. Franklin didn’t attend Whitney Houston’s funeral because of health problems. Outlets have speculated that Aretha had angered Houston’s mother Cissy with comments she made on the “Today” show. Franklin called this “ridiculous.” (E!)
