“Modern Family” actress Sarah Hyland expressed thanks on Twitter for the positive reaction she has received since revealing in a Seventeen magazine cover story that she underwent a kidney transplant last month.
“Thank you ALL for your love, support and personal stories, it really means the world to me! Stay strong and hold on to your dreams,” Hyland, who plays text message enthusiast Haley Dunphy on the ABC comedy, tweeted. “For those asking I’m doing great! I take it day by day :) of course there are some days that aren’t so good but you fight through.”
In interviews with Seventeen and ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Hyland revealed that she’s been battling a kidney disease since childhood. She received a transplant from her father last month to avoid further dialysis treatments.
Hyland also told the magazine she’s working as a youth ambassador with the Lopez Foundation. Actor George Lopez, who created the foundation for unprivileged youth and transplant awareness, tweeted, “I love @Sarah_Hyland and so proud to have you as an ambassador of @lopezfoundation ! Continue to Inspire.”
He also joked , “What’s brown and White and has 2 [kidneys]? Me and @Sarah_Hyland .. Continue to feel better.”
The actress’s TV mom Julie Bowen also chimed in on Twitter about Hyland’s good news: “Congrats to my adorably HEALTHY tv daughter. Yay kidney transplants!”
