‘Savages’ trailer: When Taylor Kitsch stabbed John Travolta

Kitsch: bringing the pain in the trailer for “Savages.” (Carl Court - AFP/Getty Images)

Taylor Kitsch has two opportunities this summer to redeem himself after the debacle that was “John Carter.” The first is the explosion-riffic “Battleship,” which opens in May. And the second is Oliver Stone’s “Savages,” which places the former “Friday Night Lights” star in an ensemble cast alongside Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, John Travolta, Benicio del Toro and Salma Hayek.

A trailer for the latter film has been released online via MTV’s Web site and confirms that “Savages” — the lurid tale of a pair of pot dealers who tick off the wrong Mexican cartel leader — should give Kitsch the opportunity do more than flex his muscles while yammering about Tharks and Barsoom.

Specifically, it gives Kitsch the opportunity to stab Travolta in the neck.

That and other seedy, semi-disturbing visuals suggest that “Savages” will mark a return to “Natural Born Killers” territory for Stone. Whether it’s an intelligent, gripping effort or just a grimy popcorn flick remains to be seen. One thing is clear: Given the hairstyle Aaron Johnson rocks in this thing, I plan to start referring to this film as “Kick-Ass With Dreads.”

Check out the clip below.
