‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ trailer: No waiting for the prince to come

(Universal)
The first teaser for “Snow White and the Huntsman” — the second of two “Snow White” movies hitting theaters in 2012 — has arrived online. The decision to release the clip now is a canny one for two reasons. Interest in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1” — which, like “Show White,” stars Kristen Stewart — is beginning to surge; and attention on filmmaker Tarsem — the director of “Mirror, Mirror,” the “Snow White” movie coming out in March — is more focused on his “Immortals,” which opens Friday.

In other words, consider the arrival of this trailer a preemptive strike. And given the somewhat violent imagery in the clip, strike seems like an appropriate word.

As we already knew based on the “Snow White and the Huntsman” panel at Comic-Con, this story will be more like a “Lord of the Rings” saga than a Disney cartoon. Consequently, don’t expect tweeting birds, whistling while anyone works or the sight of Stewart singing “Someday My Prince Will Come.” But do expect Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen pulling a borderline Darth Vader move. Check out the trailer for the film, coming June 1, after the jump.
