George Lindsey, the actor best known for playing Goober Pyle on “The Andy Griffith Show,” was remembered at a public memorial service Friday in Tennessee. Andy Griffith sent a statement to the service that read in part, “George was a better joke teller than me, and I will say here that I `borrowed’ jokes from George that he may have `borrowed’ from Minnie Pearl.” (Associated Press)
