Terrence Howard denies abusing estranged wife; Judge grants restraining order

Actor Terrence Howard has been accused of abusing his ex-wife, leading a judge to order the actor to stay 100 yards away from her Tuesday, the Associated Press reports. Howard has denied the allegations.

Michelle Howard alleges in her lawsuit (obtained by Radar.com) that Howard was “both verbally and physically abusive” during their one-year marriage.

She said her husband hit her for the first time one week after their wedding, according to the suit. Michelle Howard also alleges the actor threatened to throw her off a balcony while in South Africa.

The couple wed in January 2010 and Michelle Howard filed for divorce in February 2011.

In his response, the Oscar-nominated actor claims he “never threatened [his wife]” and lives “in constant fear of Michelle’s endeavors to ruin [his] reputation.”

The order is in effect until a Jan. 17 hearing.
