“The Avengers” premiered in Los Angeles last night in an event that cast member Jeremy Renner called the Oscars of the comic world.
There certainly has been a lot of buzz surrounding the Joss Whedon-directed superhero film since its Comic-Con panel was held way back in July 2010. Happily, the first reactions to “The Avengers” have been extremely positive, as Slash Film detailed in this report. Josh Dickey of Variety, for example, tweeted, “It’s the bomb. I could not possibly say enough.”
Unsurprisingly, the film is on track to make more than $100 million during its opening weekend May 4, according to Deadline.
The huge amount of buzz can partially be credited to the film’s beautiful, talented cast. Gaze upon their faces and read some of their quotes from the red carpet below.
Scarlett Johansson to the Hollywood Reporter on filming stunts: “Going back day after day, knowing that you’re going to get the crap kicked out of you and you do it willingly is sort of a challenge in itself, a mental challenge. But also I have to say that every time you fail at a stunt, it hurts until you get it right.”
Robert Downey. Jr. to Zap2It on playing a superhero: “Feels just about right.”
Chris Hemsworth to the Associated Press on how long he’ll play Thor: “I signed [on for] like, six [films], so for the rest of my life.”
Jeremy Renner to Access Hollywood on his reaction to the film: “It certainly makes me feel like, when I as a kid, when I saw ‘Star Wars.’ It has that massive spectacle to it.”
A decent quote from Chris Evans, a.k.a. Captain America, was nowhere to be found. Instead, just enjoy that smile.
Samuel L. Jackson to USA Today on the appeal of Nick Fury: “He’s a very strong character, he has sort of a mysterious background, he’s insanely brave.”
Mark Ruffalo to USA Today on possibly starring as the Hulk in his own film: “Totally. I’m down for that.”
