‘The Host’ teaser trailer released (Video)

Saoirse Ronan in “The Host.” (Yahoo/Open Road Films)
The first teaser trailer for “The Host,” a sci-fi film based on the novel by “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer, has hit the Web.

Saoirse Ronan stars as Melanie Stryder, a human whose body, like everyone else’s on planet Earth, has been invaded by an alien from the “Souls” race. But Stryder is a rebel and fights to maintain her spirit against the invader named Wanderer, also played by Ronan.

The film also stars Diane Kruger, William Hurt and Max Irons, whose father is Oscar winner Jeremy Irons.

The plot is hinted at in the teaser, which features very ominous narration from Ronan: “The Earth is at peace. There are no wars. There is no hunger. Honesty, courtesy and kindness are practiced by all. The world has never been more perfect.

“It is no longer your world.”

We then see flashes of the faces of invaded Earthlings, who as a result of the body-snatching have very lovely blue eyes.

The movie doesn’t come out until March 2013. But we are of course talking about it now thanks to Meyer’s involvement in the mega-famous “Twilight” books and film franchise. The final movie in the vampire saga, “Breaking Dawn — Part 2,” comes out in November.

Watch the trailer for “The Host” below.
