‘The Master’ trailer is, well, masterful

Philip Seymour Hoffman, attempting to clean up Joaquin Phoenix in “The Master.” (AllRose Promotions)

Two sneak peeks of “The Master” — the upcoming Paul Thomas Anderson film that may or may not be about Scientology, but definitely stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix — have appeared online in recent months. But today, the first full, official trailer made its debut.

At this point I could write a bunch of stuff about the gorgeous cinematography in the preview, or whether Hoffman’s character seems reminiscent of L. Ron Hubbard, or how many Academy Award nominations it will probably earn six months from now. Or I could just shut up and let you watch the clip.

I’ll go with shut up.
