Tom Hanks calls in an actor emergency on ‘30 Rock’

Tom Hanks — whom I’ve dubbed “America’s Friendliest Actor” — made a cameo appearance on the 100th episode of “30 Rock” last night.

Following a kidney transplant, Tracy Morgan returned to TV, as did his character, the Oscar-nominated EGOT hopeful, Tracy Jordan. Jordan’s return causes Hanks to make an emergency call to fellow TV actor turned movie star George Clooney. “Take him off the official A-list,” Hanks says into a red telephone. “I don’t have the password. Pitt’s our Web master. ... Well then wake him up!” Hanks then sings the theme to his TV alma mater, “Bosom Buddies.”

The episode focused in part on the hysterical pregnancy and mothering qualifications of Jenna Maroney, played by Jane Krakowski, whose rep conveniently announced that she gave birth to her son (over a week ago!) shortly before the episode aired.
