Watch the first trailer for Woody Allen’s ‘To Rome with Love’

Woody Allen (Remo Casilli - Reuters)
In the first trailer for “To Rome with Love,” a multi-plot comedy, Woody Allen’s character complains to his wife that their daughter’s boyfriend is a communist and his father is a mortician.

“Does the mother run a leper colony?” Allen’s character asks.

Yes, Allen is back in front of the camera for the first time since 2006 acting like, well, Woody Allen. He’s also taking his cast of characters to a romantic European city once again.

In another vignette, Penelope Cruz plays a prostitute hired to escort a very nervous young man. In a third, Jesse Eisenberg’s character is falling for his girlfriend’s best friend (Ellen Page) while his father (Alec Baldwin) visits and observes.

The most absurd story line focuses on an Italian man (Roberto Benigni) who suddenly becomes famous for reasons that aren’t made clear. As Benigni’s average Joe stands in front of his bathroom sink, a TV news correspondent reports, “We’re covering the shave live, from the first to the last stroke.”

The entire trailer seems promising, if not laugh out loud funny. But Benigni’s bit is simply perfetto.

Watch the trailer below.
