Watch the music video that finally teams up R.E.M., James Franco and Lindsay Lohan

R.E.M. may have broken up a year ago, but the band is still releasing music videos, apparently. Which is why a clip for one of the songs from their final album, “Collapse Into Now,” was released just last week.

It features all the elements one could hope for in an R.E.M. video: Moody music by the band, including Michael Stipe, with an assist from Patti Smith on vocals.

Directorial flourishes by ... James Franco?

And cameo appearances from ... Lindsay Lohan and Franco in drag. Of course.

The music video is sort of pretentious but also sort of hypnotic. And it may make you feel nostalgic for the days when R.E.M. made music videos in which people sat in traffic.
