Whitney Houston checks into rehab

Whitney Houston has reentered rehab, but media reports on the reasons for that return vary.

An article from the Associated Press states that the singer — who has very publicly struggled with drug and alcohol addictions — checked into an outpatient program that focuses on treatment for both drug and alcohol abuse. Her rep, Kristen Foster, says Houston entered the program voluntarily.

TMZ, on the other hand, also says the 47-year-old pop diva is seeking out-patient treatment, but not because of drugs and alcohol.

“She’s cleansing herself to get ready for a new movie,” an unnamed source tells the celebrity gossip site.

The AP’s report sounds a bit more credible. But either way, it’s clear that Houston is trying to get better.

Houston attempted to mount a comeback in 2009 and 2010 with a new album and tour. But the effort met with limited success.

Lady Gaga, however, still has faith in Houston’s performance powers. At the Grammy Awards earlier this year, she noted that she wrote “Born This Way” while imagining that Houston was singing it. Maybe after this recent cleansing, the singer can give it a shot.
