Will Ferrell began his four-episode run as new boss Deangelo Vickers last night on “The Office.” From the opening scene — where Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and Vickers couldn’t seem to officially meet — to the last, I thought the episode was one of the best in a long time. Carell and Ferrell, who worked together in the film “Anchorman,” had great chemistry, with Ferrell playing a quirky straight man role to Carell’s beloved, clueless Scott. The best part of the episode, in my opinion, had to be the Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) subplot, where Vickers made his accidental ”funny guy” do emotionally and physically damaging stunts, including pouring soap into his mouth.
It’s not clear how much of a role Ferrell will play in
next week’s April 28th’s “Office,” when Carell says goodbye in an extended, undoubtedly emotional episode.
