Yvette Wilson, ‘Moesha’ actress, dies at 48, friend confirms

Yvette Wilson, a comedienne and actress best known for her role on the ‘90s sitcom “Moesha,” has died after a battle with cervical cancer, her friend Jeffrey Pittle confirmed to Celebritology. Wilson’s former co-star Shar Jackson tweeted late Thursday “God has chosen to take my sister Yvette home.”

NewsOne was the first to report the news.

Pittle, a creative director, created a Give Forward page to raise money for the actress’s medical bills in January. “Yvette has experienced kidney failure, kidney transplants and cervical cancer, among other things,” Pittle wrote. “Her cancer has come back after an extended retreat, and doctors are saying it’s very aggressive this time out.”

Wilson, who began her career as a stand-up comic, played Andell Wilkerson on the Brandy-led show “Moesha.” She also starred on the show’s spinoff “The Parkers.”

News of Wilson’s death spread quickly on Twitter, where her name became a trending topic. Famous Twitter users Jackee Harry, Niecy Nash and Loni Love remembered her.
