Zach Galifianakis went from underground comedian to bona fide famous person after starring in 2009’s “The Hangover.” But, as he told Conan O’Brien on Monday’s “Conan,” he doesn’t find the newfound fan appreciation “rewarding.”
“It’s always the same thing. ‘Hey aren’t you the fat guy from ”The Hangover”?’ Galifianakis said, as the audience made sympathetic noises. “And I’m like, ‘Aren’t you the nerd with cargo shorts on?’”
Maybe this reluctance explains why Galifianakis creates outrageous stories about his personal life. For example, when O’Brien asked where he lived in Manhattan, the actor said he resides in the torch of the Statue of Liberty. “A lot of sunlight, good amount of sunlight. It’s a walk-up,” he said of his digs. “She’s a good lady though, a great lady.”
“The Hangover 2” opens later this month.
