I really, really love the Bruckner 7th and the Wesendonck Lieder, and I went to Thursday night’s NSO concert full of anticipation. I found it sluggish, and I didn’t care for the contralto soloist at all. I remember when Nathalie Stutzmann was an up-and-coming singer, and I realized last night that my memory was 25 years old. But one could overlook the vocal failings if she were bringing something artistically; I just didn’t feel she was actually making very much of what she was singing. My review is here.
