Links: BSO’s fine Kaddish, and more

In Monday’s Washington Post, I review the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s very fine performance of the “Kaddish” Symphony. I have some reservations about Marin Alsop, but boy can she conduct Bernstein. (And Claire Bloom did an amazing job bringing across an allegedly unperformable text.)

Charles T. Downey reviewed the opening concert of the Folger Consort’s season, which focuses on five major European cities; this concert set its sights on London.

And an obituary appeared of Fred Begun, who was the National Symphony Orchestra’s principal timpanist for nearly 50 years.
