Links: reviews of Gergiev, the Alexandria Symphony, and other weekend fare

This weekend, the Tchaikovsky Competition winner Daniil Trifonov impressed me at George Mason University, while Gergiev gave a typically exciting, sloppy performance: Pianist Daniil Trifonov’s playing is freakishly brilliant, by Anne Midgette.

And I extolled the joys of musical home cooking, the honorable and enjoyable performances I heard at the Friday Morning Music Club: FMMC opens 125th season, by Anne Midgette.

In other review news: Joan Reinthaler checked out one of Washington’s smaller opera companies: Uneven but enjoyable Don Giovanni at Repertory Opera Theater, by Joan Reinthaler.

And Stephen Brookes took note of the Alexandria Symphony’s impressive season opener, including a world premiere with members of the Turtle Island Quartet: ASO impresses at season opener, by Stephen Brookes.

What did you see this weekend?
