Podcasts: The last word on clothes

Since the Yuja Wang dress story seemed to have hit a nerve, WQXR invited a few of us with contrasting points of view for a podcast to discuss the issue of what concert artists should or shouldn’t wear. I joined fellow-Washingtonian Patrick McCoy and Amy Frawley, the executive vice president of Concert Artists Guild. Predictably, it was a juicy topic for discussion: they had to almost forcibly shut us down or we’d still be talking. Listen here.

I’m still arguing with one friend about whether this subject is gender-related. I believe that men who push the envelope in classical music — like these two — don’t get the same kind of censure that women do. She claims that it’s the same for both genders. What do you think?

Anne Midgette came to the Washington Post in 2008, when she consolidated her various cultural interests under the single title of chief classical music critic. She blogs at The Classical Beat.
