Bluebrain soundtrack the Mall; DMC DJ battle comes to U Street Music Hall

- Local duo Bluebrain have hosted a wide variety of site-specific sound works in Washington over the past couple years, but their new album might be the group’s most ambitious project yet. “The National Mall” is an album released as an iPhone app that will track the listener’s location via GPS. As the listeners wander around the Mall, the app will trigger different sounds, creating a sonic environment based on wherever you stroll. We’ve always loved the sound of gravel crunching beneath our feet on the Mall, but this sounds way cooler.

- Fans of the wiki-wiki-wiki know the DMC World DJ Championships, the global competition where DJs scratch their way to superstardom. The DMC’s regional competition will be held at April 15 at U Street Music Hall. Winners will advance to the national tier in New York in June. The world championship takes place in London in September.
