Jack White announces solo debut album; M.I.A. confirms Super Bowl appearance, releases new single

Jack White’s solo debut is due this spring. (Stephen Chermin/AP)
- Former White Stripes frontman/guitar hotshot/howler Jack White will release his first solo album in April. “Blunderbuss” is out on April 24 on White’s on Third Man Recordings, in conjunction with Columbia and XL Recordings.

“I’ve put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas,” White says in a press release.

Listen to lead single “Love Interruption” below. There are no guitar freakouts — or drums, even — but it definitely will certainly please fans who have been waiting to hear from White. The White Stripes announced their breakup almost exactly a year ago.

- M.I.A. confirmed that she will be performing at Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime show with Madonna and Nicki Minaj. She also released new single “Bad Girls” yesterday.
