John Legend and the Roots to perform "What's Going On" in D.C.; former Alice in Chains bassist passes away; Merle Haggard returns

- The Kennedy Center announced its 2011-2012 season lineup yesterday and among the highlights is a one-time only concert featuring John Legend and the Roots performing Marvin Gaye's classic album "What's Going On" in its entirety, backed by the National Symphony Orchestra.

- Mike Starr , former bassist for grunge superstars Alice in Chains, passed away at the age of 44. Starr had long struggled with addiction and had appeared on the VH1 reality show "Celebrity Rehab."

- Country legend and recent Kennedy Center Honors recipient Merle Haggard will return to the D.C. area with an Aug. 1 concert at the Birchmere. The concert will take place nearly a year after a previously scheduled show that was canceled due to illness.
