Doughnuts, Week 13

An Arlington food truck's mini doughnuts wow the judges.

Before the band goes on stage, can I get a countdown?

Before the band goes on stage, can I get a countdown?

Letting audiences know how long they have until the band takes the stage is a really great idea.

RIP Gwar guitarist Cory Smoot; Darren Aronofsky to direct Lou Reed/Metallica video; Detroit protests Nickelback

Gwar guitarist Cory Smooth passed away on Thursday. (DRT Entertainment)
- Cory Smoot, the guitarist who played the role of Flattus Maximus in heavy metal costume provocateurs Gwar was found dead on the band’s tour bus on Thursday. He had been playing in the band since 2002. The band recently performed at 9:30 Club and is known for sci-fi/fantasy-based costumes and using gallons upon gallons of fake blood in its live shows.

- Darren Aronofsky, the acclaimed director of films such as “Black Swan,” “The Wrestler” and “Requiem for a Dream” will soon tackle his most difficult and disturbing project yet — “Lulu,” the recent Lou Reed/Metallica collaboration. He will direct a video for the song “Iced Honey.”

- One of the NFL’s Thanksgiving offerings features the Detroit Lions hosting the Green Bay Packers. The halftime entertainment for the game is Nickelback. And some people in Detroit don’t like that and are trying to do something about it.

- And speaking of music on Thanksgiving, Lady Gaga will premiere a Thanksgiving special that night on ABC. Tony Bennett will make a guest appearance.
