Singles file: Rihanna, Beastie Boys, Sade

Britney Spears spices up Rihanna’s “S&M” with a robotic verse. (Stephen Lam/Reuters)
A weekly playlist for the listener with a one-track mind...

Rihanna featuring Britney Spears: “S&M”

Robot Britney drops a steamy new verse on this much-improved remixed version of the “Loud” hit.

Beastie Boys: “Make Some Noise”

The Beasties give no quarter to middle age on this new song, which sounds like the best of their post-Rick Rubin work with an organ splayed over top of it.

Red Fang: “Wires”

The Portland headbangers go semi-legit on this thudding but still oddly streamlined song, produced by Decemberist (!) Chris Funk.

Sade featuring Jay-Z: “The Moon & the Sky (remix)”

The collabo-shy Sade finally grants Jay-Z an audience. Has Hova ever sounded so understated?

Freelance Whales: “Girl U Want” (Devo cover)

In honor of Record Store Day (April 16), the Whales take Devo’s stuttery art-pop classic and make it slow, gorgeous and Brooklyny.
