Tabi Bonney comes home; Dig into a massive John Fahey box set; Chavez plays “Fallon” (really?)

Tabi Bonneymaks a hometown appearance on Thursday. (Kyle Gustafson/FTWP)
If you see one performance this week, make it: Local favorite Tabi Bonney when he visits DC9 on Thursday. Bonney is in the middle of a two-month long tour with fellow underground rapper MURS, so make sure his hometown show is special. Bonney’s “The Summer Years” is just out; we’ll have a Q&A with him on Click Track later this week.

If you listen to one new recording this week, make it: “Your Past Comes Back to Haunt You,” the new five-disc box set of recordings made by legendary father of American Primitivism (and D.C. native) John Fahey. This collection contains material recorded from 1958-1965, at the very beginning of Fahey’s career.

If you watch one performance on television this week, make it: Overlooked ’90s indie rock guitar dudes Chavez on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday. Fallon has hosted a number of unlikely ’90s indie rock bands, but this one seems particularly out there. Here’s hoping they play “Unreal Is Here.”
