The Washington Post

Week ahead: The year’s best country albums materialize; Weezy at Jiffy; Panda Bear stays up late

If you buy one album this week, make it: “Where Country Grows” by Ashton Shepherd. Is it the best country album we’ve heard in 2011? It might be — at least for a couple more weeks. Read my review of Shepherd’s latest and another excellent forthcoming country disc in tomorrow’s Post.

If you go to one show this week, make it: The return of Lil Wayne at Jiffy Lube Live on Friday. His last area show was a winner.

And if you stay up late to watch one artist perform on television this week, make it: Panda Bear on “Fallon” later tonight. Will his drumming be as thuggish as it was at Animal Collective’s Saturday show at Merriweather? Will he even play drums at all? What will fellow guest Kid Rock think?

Chris Richards has been the Post's pop music critic since 2009. He's recently written about the bliss of summer songs, the woe of festival fatigue and a guide on how to KonMari your record collection.
