Will Madonna perform at this year’s Super Bowl?

Will Madonna be the halftime entertainment at Super Bowl XLVI in February? That’s what SB Nation is reporting this morning.

After last year’s much-lambasted performance by Black Eyed Peas it’s no surprise that the NFL would go after a performer with a more storied career. A couple of years ago, on the eve of the Who’s performance at the 2010 halftime show, we debated who we’d like to see take the big stage. Our responses ranged from Beyonce to Radiohead .

After the Janet Jackson controversy of 2004, halftime shows went considerably classic rock in the following years. Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen , the Who and Prince all performed before last year’s BEP disaster.

So if the rumors are true the question is simple — is the Material Girl a good choice for Super Bowl halftime entertainment?
