Comic Riffs is not so quick to question the direction of any series from AMC. When a channel's recent track record for original programming includes such stellar award-magnets as "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" -- well, suffice to say that the so-called network is on a bit of a roll.
With today's release of the trailer for "The Walking Dead" for wide public consumption, however (the video was shown at last month's San Diego Comic-Con), 'Riffs has had one distinct reaction:
While the look is first-rate and the musical choices are quite inspired, 'Riffs is not immediately drawn to it over the crude animation [clip below] that we first saw -- the black-and-white trailer that previously put Robert Kirkman's stylish zombie-apocalypse comic in motion.
In this regard, Comic Riffs is probably simply as slow as a zombie struck by a slug to the kneecaps. We'll surely come around come Halloween, when Frank Darabont's full live-action series debuts and the fine acting of Andrew Lincoln (as Sheriff Rick Grimes) begins to take hold.
Till then, though, we'll keep comparing it to the animated clip and musing: What IF?
