Rounding up 'Riffs favorite Sunday 'toons...
"Pearls Before Swine" cartoonist Stephan Pastis has told Comic Riffs that he typically draws many, many months ahead of schedule. Which makes it all the more poignant -- or just friggin' eerie -- that as Michael Jackson's death draws the inevitable pop-culture comparisons to such untimely deaths as Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Jim Morrison, today's "Pearls Before Swine" strip depicts a seance and references Monroe, Dean and Morrison.
I am only relieved that Humpty-Dumpty does not say, "I blame the King of Pop's horses."
ELSEWHERE...
FAVE SATIRIC LINE: "DOONESBURY" gets the gold for the line (must-read in context): "Your dream is to be over?" (Plus, like the coloring of that drumkit.)
FAVE MALAPROPISM: Kudos go to "PICKLES." Come to think of it, I kinda prefer "Fluttering" itself.
FAVE COLORWORK: The sky in "FRAZZ" edges out the background in "LIO."
KILLER APP-TITUDE: Lastly, just a two-word response to today's funny "BREWSTER ROCKIT": If only.
If you've got cartoons today that you particularly like -- or dislike -- you're invited to share them links.
