The Sunday morning roundup of 'toons, from beached whales to pantless waterfowl...
FAVE PSEUDO-FACT DU JOUR:
"PICKLES" gets some swell comic mileage out of the ol' myth that a Pantless Donald Duck is -- as Popeye might pun -- "wrong to the Finnish." (Sorry, I know. It's early yet.) Of course, it's only a false myth, an old duck's tale that takes hold because it's so fun to believe. But just think about it: They would ban a bottomless Donald, but they'd allow a bottomless Daisy Duck? (Wait, don't answer that.) Anyway, the whole furry anecdote is worth reading about HERE.
FAVE GAG: Who knew that all that Starbucks-produced music that pipes through the store's speakers might as well as be the whale-song that lures leviathans? Thanks, Pastis, for this "PEARLS BEFORE SWINE."
FAVE THREE-MINUTE READ: This "DOONESBURY" is well worth the time it takes to dwell on each panel.
.
FAVE UNCOMFORTABLE GAG: This "PRICKLY CITY" strikes a little too close to home. And while we're talkin' "Prickly," my version of the comic, at least, has no syndication "stamp" -- speaking possibly to the strip's recent limbo. Effective today, United Feature Syndicate says, it'll distribute Scott Stantis's strip, which was launched by Universal Press Syndicate.
