‘CUL DE SAC’ GALLERY: The animated shorts

As the co-founder of the RingTales animation studio, Michael Fry helps bring characters from such strips as “Pearls Before Swine,” “Lio” and ”Pooch Cafe” to moving life.

Fry — who also is the co-creator of “Over the Hedge” — recently discussed why he enjoys animating Richard Thompson’s “Cul de Sac.”

“What makes Cul de Sac a joy to animate are the characters,” Fry tells Comic Riffs. “Richard’s done all the hard work for us.

“His lively style suggests animation. On the page, Alice is dying to move. And talk. And control bees with her mind.

“All we do is let it happen.”
