D.C.'s cartoon riches: INTERVENTION and SPX cons kick off this weekend

It's an embarrassment of comic riches in the D.C. area this weekend. One day after SPX guests Richard Thompson ("Cul de Sac") and Keith Knight ("The Knight Life," "The K Chronicles") were speaking at the Politics & Prose bookstore, INTERVENTION CON and the aforementioned SMALL PRESS EXPO land in suburban Maryland.

The inaugural Intervention Con is a three-day event (starting this afternoon) focusing on webcomics and gaming, and we're eager to see how the kickoff comes together. And a mere one Metro stop away on Saturday and Sunday, the established SPX will also host such guests as Jaime Hernandez, Raina Telgemeier, Kate Beaton and Dean Haspiel, among other top talent.

Comic Riffs will be attending both cons and next week will report on highlights and finds from the two shows.
