FREE COMIC BOOK DAY: What comics are you picking up today for #FCBD?

“AVENGERS”? “Archie”? “Adventure Time”?

Those are just the A’s as Comic Riffs asks readers: What titles do you hope or plan to pick up Saturday as part of glorious Free Comic Book Day?

[5 “AVENGERS” PREDICTIONS: From record-breaking box office to Star Twitter Wars]

.

What started as a promotional stunt for merchants has grown by leaps and soft-bounds, as at least a couple-thousand comic shops are expected to participate today in book giveaways that reward comics fans and, it’s hoped, convert new ones — especially the young readers. (The event is now held annually on the first Saturday in May.)

To find out more — including to determine your nearest/best store location — you can go to the Free Comic Book Day site. You can also check out which comics creator may be signing near you. (For example, such talents as Dean Haspiel and Carla Speed McNeil, Casey Jones and Nathan Richardson are scheduled to appear in suburban Maryland, just a Hulk’s throw from D.C.)

And if you care to share what great books you scored today, just tweet your titles to @comicriffs with the hashtag #FCBD, or e-mail comicriffs@washpost.com.

Happy comic-shopping — and in the immortal words of Homer Simpson: ”Nothing a month? Yeah, I think we can swing that.”
